Iinuma Meijo is a venerable brewery with over 200 years of history, founded in 1811 by the first-generation Iwajiro Iinuma, a native of Nagaoka, Niigata, who was drawn to the lands of Tochigi. Located in Nishikata-machi, Tochigi City, the brewery uses pure groundwater from the Otonagawa River system, originating from Mount Nantai in the Nikko mountain range.
The hallmark of this brewery is the "fusion of technique and nature," inheriting traditional Niigata brewing methods while reflecting Tochigi's rich terroir in its sake. With a strong network of local farmers, including their own fields, they carefully select high-quality sake rice such as Yamada Nishiki, Gohyaku-mangoku, and the locally developed Yumesasara. By performing all rice polishing in-house, they extract the maximum potential from their ingredients.
The brewery offers a diverse range of brands, including the traditional flagship "Suginamiki" and the contemporary "Sugata," which has earned a dedicated following for its bold approach. Under the motto of "Teamwork," they continue a sincere brewing process, pouring their souls into every drop despite their small-scale production. It is a distinguished Tochigi brewery where respect for history coexists with a spirit of innovation.
