Katsuya Shuzo is a long-standing brewery with over 230 years of history. It began when the founder, Zenichi Yamamoto, took the trade name "Katsuya" and started brewing sake using rice paid as annual taxes.
The brewery is located at the foot of Mt. Shiroyama (elevation 369m) and uses high-quality spring water from Mt. Shiroyama as brewing water. Known as the brewery that continues to make the sacred sake (Omiki) for Munakata Taisha, it practices sake brewing deeply rooted in the history and culture of Munakata.
With a small team of 5 brewers, it continues careful brewing using mineral-rich spring water from Mt. Shiroyama and traditional manual work. The main building and chimney are registered as Tangible Cultural Properties of Japan.
