Egashira Shuzo is a historical brewery founded in the 30th year of Meiji (1897) in Miike, Omuta City, Fukuoka Prefecture. Omuta City is known as an industrial city that flourished with the Miike Coal Mine, and Egashira Shuzo has been brewing local sake in this area for over a hundred years.
The greatest feature of the brewery is its specialization in long-term aged sake (Koshu). Egashira Shuzo puts particular effort into the production of aged sake, producing extremely rare long-term aged sake such as 10-year, 20-year, and even 30-year sake as "Hizo Koshu" (Treasured Old Sake). Breweries that stably produce such long-term aged sake are rare nationwide, and it has established a position as a brewery specializing in old sake.
The representative brand is "Asahimori," and in addition to regular sake products, the long-term aged "Asahimori Hizo Koshu" series is particularly famous. It also produces an aged sake with an impressive name called "Sugoku Aitai" (I really want to meet you), and as an old sake aged for 20 to 30 years, which falls into the rarest category even in Japan, it attracts attention among sake enthusiasts.
The product lineup includes not only sake but also shochu, with brands such as "Daijayama" and "Hyakuyaku no Cho." The name "Daijayama" is derived from the Daijayama Festival, a traditional festival in Omuta, and is a naming deeply connected to the local culture.
Business hours are from 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM, and the regular holiday is Sunday. It is within walking distance from the Miike Shinmachi bus stop, and locals and visitors can visit directly.
By specializing in the unique product of long-term aged sake, it has built a unique position different from other breweries, and radiates a unique presence in the sake industry as a brewery pursuing deep umami and complex flavors due to aging.
