Shata Shuzo, established in 1823, is a premier brewery representing Ishikawa, located in Bomaru-machi, Hakusan City, overlooking the vast Kaga Plain at the foot of Mount Hakusan. It has established an unshakeable position as the 'synonym for Yamahai brewing' in the sake world, with its name renowned among enthusiasts both in Japan and globally.
In the 1970s, the 7th-generation head and master brewer Saburo Nakakura perfected the unique 'Tengumai-style Yamahai method,' creating a one-of-a-kind flavor profile with rich umami, powerful acidity, and a stunning amber brilliance. In 2011, it achieved the ultimate honor of the 'Trophy' (the top award among all gold medals) in the Junmai category at the International Wine Challenge (IWC) in London. Boasting a sophisticated finish that complements modern dining while retaining the deep body of traditional Yamahai, their sake continues to deliver a level of emotion that, as its name suggests, would make even a 'Tengu' (mountain goblin) dance with joy.
