Murezuru Shuzo is a distillery located in Asaji-machi, Bungo-Ono City, founded when first-generation owner Tamaki Mori fell in love with the local water and began producing sake under the name "Murezuru."
The brewery sits in a valley surrounded by some of Kyushu's most iconic mountains, including Mount Sobo, Mount Kuju, and Mount Aso, and uses the natural spring water from these mountains for brewing.
Originally a sake brewery producing "Murezuru" sake, it later transformed into a shochu distillery. Today, as a small, family-run operation, it carefully crafts shochu that can only be made with the spring water and natural environment of this region.
Using the Oita Prefecture barley variety "Toyonohoshi" and the beautiful local spring water, the distillery aims for a gentle flavor profile — one sip brings warmth, two sips bring smiles, and three sips envelop you in barley.
The pristine water that captivated the founder and the rich natural environment surrounded by Kyushu's representative mountains continue to support Murezuru Shuzo's craft.
