Suminoe Shuzo is a brewery founded in 1845 in Ishinomaki City, Miyagi Prefecture, and its representative brand is "Suminoe."
In the Great East Japan Earthquake, the tsunami surged up the Kitakami River, flooding the brewery during brewing, and causing major damage such as destroying equipment like kettles, pumps, and pressing machines.
With various support immediately after the earthquake, they were able to resume brewing from October of the year of the disaster. The brewer says, "First of all, I want to express my gratitude for having people drink Suminoe and get to know Suminoe. It is thanks to everyone across the country that we can continue brewing sake like this now."
They are characterized by sake brewing using high-quality and excellent sake rice from various regions such as Miyagi Prefecture's Kura no Hana, Hyogo Prefecture's Yamada Nishiki, Fukui Prefecture's Gohyakumangoku, and Okayama Prefecture's Omachi, as well as underflow water from the Kitakami River, and making full use of Miyagi yeast.
The target sake quality is "clean," "soft," and "elegant." Having recovered from the tsunami damage, they continue to brew high-quality sake in Ishinomaki. They are also a member of DATE SEVEN.
