Mineno Hakubai Shuzo is a prestigious brewery with the second longest history in Niigata Prefecture, boasting its founding from 1624 to 1643. Located at the foot of Mt. Kakuda in Nishikan-ku, Niigata City, it has a historical background of once making sake for the Echigo Mitsuneyama domain.
The brewery has welcomed Nanbu Toji Kenji Iijima, who sent out the popular brand 'Sharaku' to the world, and conducts sake brewing where 400 years of tradition and innovation are perfectly fused. Going beyond 'Tanrei Karakuchi' (light and dry), which is synonymous with Niigata sake, it established a new style called 'Hojun Karakuchi' (rich and dry) that pursues the rich body and umami of the rice itself. In addition to the traditional brand 'Mineno Hakubai,' the new brand 'Ryoko,' named after calligrapher Maki Ryoko, is highly evaluated internationally, winning the highest award at IWC 2023. While carrying the weight of history, it is a treasure brewery that Niigata is proud of, continuing to pioneer new possibilities for sake.
