Takahashi Shuzo

Founded in the Ansei era (1854-1860) in Nagaoka, Niigata, Takahashi Shuzo is a brewery where history and culture resonate. Its flagship brand 'Choryo,' named after the classical alias of Nagaoka City, has long been cherished by the local community. The brewery’s iconic red-brick building and chimney, dating back to the Taisho era, are designated as National Registered Tangible Cultural Properties, symbolizing the heritage of Nagaoka as a brewing town. While inheriting traditional 'Echigo Toji' techniques, the brewery embraces innovation through brands like 'Yaichi'—named after the renowned Nagaoka-born calligrapher Aizu Yaichi—and unique anime collaborations. Crafted within historic walls using Nagaoka’s pristine water and rice, their sake features a crisp 'tanrei' finish characteristic of Niigata, enriched by a profound cultural background.
