Yamamoto Honke is a long-established sake brewery located in Gojo City, Nara Prefecture, founded in the Hoei era (around 1704-1710).
They brew sake using rich subsoil water from the Mt. Kongo system and traditional methods.
It used to be popular as a sweet sake to soothe the fatigue of forestry workers in southern Nara Prefecture, but now it mainly brews light sake to accompany meals that matches modern dietary habits.
The brewery is located in Gojo Shinmachi Street, a historical townscape that retains the atmosphere of the Edo period, and is designated as a national Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings.
Including the representative brand "Matsunotomo", they also produce wine using local specialty persimmons and continue activities rooted in the region.
