Goshun is a historic sake brewery located in Ayaha, Ikeda City, Osaka Prefecture, and is one of only two remaining breweries in Ikeda that have continued since the mid-Edo period.
Ikeda is known as the "Home of Gofuku (textiles)," and the brand name "Goshun" signifies "Sake of Ikeda" while also paying homage to the Edo-period painter Matsumura Goshun, who moved to Ikeda and adopted the name.
The brewery's philosophy is based on being "neither too sweet nor too dry," pursuing a well-balanced, mellow flavor with umami and the easy drinkability of a zero sake meter value.
They use underground water from Mount Satsuki (Inagawa River system) and carefully selected rice varieties such as "Omachi" from Akaiwa, Okayama, as well as Asahi and Akebono.
Known as a prestigious sake once cherished by the author Junichiro Tanizaki, it is one of Osaka's representative breweries, carrying on the tradition of Ikeda sake, which gained great popularity as "Edo-kudari sake" during the Edo period.
