"Sugita Shuzo" is a long-established brewery in Oyama City, Tochigi Prefecture, boasting nearly 300 years of history since its founding in the Kyoho era (1716–1736) of the mid-Edo period. Rooted in the rich granary of the southern prefecture, it uses pure groundwater from the Nikko mountain range and strictly selected sake rice to preserve traditional techniques passed down through generations.
With the concept of "sake that is truly like sake," the brewery produces all of its sake using the traditional "Sase-shiki Fune-shibori" (fune pressing method). Specializing in meticulous hand-brewing possible only in a small-scale brewery, they maintain an uncompromising approach that spares no effort. From their flagship brand "Yuto Masamune" (Great Eastern Masamune), they continue to pursue rich, umami-filled flavors that resonate with the heart.
While holding a historical background worthy of a cultural property, they also challenge new possibilities through experimental labels like "Oju," created by young brewers. It is a brewery deeply loved by the community, combining history and passion as a representative of Oyama City.
