Wakatsuru Shuzo

Wakatsuru Shuzo, founded in 1862 in Tonami City, Toyama, is a historic brewery renowned for its 'dual-wielding' expertise in both sake and whisky.
During the post-war era, research into distilled spirits initiated in response to rice shortages culminated in a whisky license in 1952, followed by the birth of 'Sunshine Whisky' in 1953. The brewery's grounds, featuring the 'Saburomaru Distillery' and 'Taisho-gura,' are designated as Registered Tangible Cultural Properties of Japan, where tradition and innovation coexist.
In whisky production, they have gained global attention for cutting-edge initiatives, such as the world's first cast-iron pot still, 'ZEMON.' Meanwhile, their sake brewing remains uncompromising, utilizing the pristine underground water of the Shogawa River and inheriting traditional techniques. Through brands like 'Wakatsuru' and 'Nokaya,' they continue to share Toyama's rich nature and the challenging spirit of its artisans with the world.
