Izawa Honke was a sake brewing company founded in 1883 (Meiji 16) and headquartered in Inami Town, Hyogo Prefecture.
It was a highly acclaimed brewery, winning the Gold Prize at the National New Sake Appraising and Deliberating Fair for six consecutive years since 1983 (winning 11 times in total).
The famous sake brewed by hand using home-grown sake rice Yamada Nishiki was characterized by a rich and mellow yet clean aftertaste, and was also loved by former Japanese national soccer representative Hidetoshi Nakata.
Founder Representative Izawa suffered from cancer three years ago, and considering the aging of the master brewer and the situation where the recovery of demand for sake due to the COVID-19 pandemic could not be foreseen, they closed their business at the end of November 2021.
