Yamaguchi Gomei (Kaishuichi Shuzo), founded in 1643, is one of Fukushima's oldest breweries with nearly 380 years of history.
Its origins are deeply tied to Aizu's history, as the first Gihei Yamaguchi moved to the region and began brewing when Hoshina Masayuki (half-brother of 3rd Shogun Iemitsu) was appointed lord of Aizu. Despite facing challenges like aging facilities, the 15th generation owner Yoshio Yamaguchi, his wife, and a small group of elite artisans have desperately protected their brewing with the pride of being "Aizu's number one" (Kaishuichi).
Their technical prowess remains sharp, winning consecutive Gold Medals at the National New Sake Awards in the Reiwa 4 and 5 brewing years (2023 and 2024). Through brands like "Gihei" named after the founder and "Kaishuichi," they continue to freshly transmit the indomitable spirit and profound history of Aizu to the next generation.
