Yokota Shuzo is a long-established brewery founded in 1805 during the late Edo period in Gyoda City, Saitama Prefecture. It began when Omi merchant Shoemon Yokota opened a brewery here in search of high-quality water, and for over 200 years since, it has continued to protect traditional brewing in the land of Gyoda.
The greatest pride is its extraordinary technical capability. It boasts brilliant award history, including a total of 22 gold medals at the National New Sake Awards and 50 victories at the Nanbu Toji Self-Brewed Sake Awards, being one of the best in the industry. This is evidence of the skills polished by generations of craftsmen and their single-minded passion for brewing.
The flagship brand "Nihonbashi" is derived from the founder's training at a sake wholesaler in Nihonbashi, Edo, and was named with the strong determination to "never forget the original intention." The fact that it has cherished and protected the name "Nihonbashi" for over 200 years while being in Saitama Prefecture makes you feel reverence for tradition. Additionally, it deeply focuses on brewing that conveys regional terroir and history, such as "Ukishiro," named after Oshi Castle symbolizing Gyoda's history, and "Gyoda Sodachi," which uses 100% local "Sake Musashi." Based on tradition, it is a prestigious brewery that continues to transmit fine sake from Gyoda that can be boasted to the world.
