Senju Shuzo, founded in 1902, is the only remaining sake brewery in Iwata City, Shizuoka. Their flagship brand 'Senju' is named after a legendary dancer from the Genpei era (12th century), whose pure and devoted love story is rooted in the local soil of Iwata.
Uniquely for Shizuoka, the brewery follows the 'Echigo style' (Niigata style) under the guidance of master brewers from Niigata. Using the pristine groundwaters of the Tenryu River, they produce sakes characterized by remarkable clarity, a light body ('Tanrei'), and a crisp finish.
Operating under the philosophy that 'the heart of brewing lies in hand-crafted Ginjo,' they have focused on premium brewing for over 70 years. Today, they leverage their extensive expertise to produce not only sake but also shochu, liqueurs, and whisky, representing a versatile artisan tradition.
