Yao Honten, founded in 1745 during the mid-Edo period, is one of the leading long-established breweries in the Chichibu region, marking over 270 years of history in Chichibu City, Saitama Prefecture. Located at the foot of the Chichibu mountain range, it holds the corporate motto of "Harmony, Sincerity, and Gratitude," continuing brewing where rich nature and craftsmen's skills are integrated. While inheriting tradition from the Edo period, it has also played a role as a transmission base for sake culture that always leads the era.
The maximum commitment is preparation using the underground water of Mt. Buko, a symbol of Chichibu. This clear water and selected local brewing rice meet in Chichibu's severe winter air and are transformed into mellow fine sake by the hands of experienced craftsmen. The flavor, where latest facilities and traditional "skills" fuse, balances powerful rice umami with transparent crispness.
The flagship brand "Chichibu Nishiki" is a top-quality drink that weaves Chichibu's nature and culture like a brocade (Nishiki) as its name suggests. Currently, as "Sake-zukuri no Mori" (Forest of Brewing), it also features a brewing factory along with a sake museum and product hall, loved as a complex facility that shares the charm of brewing alongside Chichibu's history and culture for tourists. It is a prestigious brewery that continues to lead Chichibu's local sake culture with pride in tradition.
