Sakurada Shuzo, established in 1914, is a passionate, small family-run brewery rooted in the fisherman's town of Takoshima-machi at the tip of the Noto Peninsula in Suzu City. Remarkably, about 90% of their sake is consumed within the local Suzu community, with 60% flowing through the Takoshima district alone, making it a true 'community-owned' sake deeply integrated into the daily lives of the Suzu people.
Their flagship brands, 'Taikei' and 'Hatsuzakura,' have long been cherished by local fishermen as the go-to drink for celebrating a big catch or unwinding after a long day at sea. Each sake—primarily Honjozo and Junmai—is carefully crafted to highlight the umami of rice while maintaining a clean profile that complements fresh seafood perfectly. Despite the devastating 2024 Noto Peninsula Earthquake, which resulted in the total collapse of the brewery and the loss of much of their stock, they have begun joint brewing using rescued rice with the full support of Shata Shuzo (Tengumai) in Hakusan City. Steadfastly moving forward, this brewery continues its journey toward reconstruction to ensure that the light of Takoshima's heritage never fades.
