Nakano Shuzo is a sake brewery founded in 1874 in the castle town of Kitsuki City, continuing to preserve the region's sake culture as the last remaining brewery in Kitsuki. The brewery created the brand Chiebijin, named after the first proprietress "Chie," and is now led by sixth-generation owner Atsuyuki Nakano, who continues new challenges while honoring tradition. The brewing water comes from the sacred water of Rokugo Mangan, rising from 200 meters underground, a natural water of such high quality that it has won the Monde Selection Grand Gold Award for three consecutive years and the International High Quality Trophy. Under the philosophy of "harmonious brewing makes fine sake" and the motto "sake-making is harmony and smiles," all brewery workers cooperate in their craft. The brewery actively pursues local production for local consumption using primarily locally sourced ingredients. Internationally acclaimed, the brewery has won multiple President's Awards and Platinum Awards at France's Kura Master sake competition, and has received high ratings from wine critics' Parker Points.
