Hasegawa Shuzo, established in 1842, is a historic brewery located in the Settya district of Nagaoka, Niigata. Operating under the house name 'Shinshuya,' the brewery continues its commitment to artisanal, handmade sake using traditional tools within atmospheric cellars dating back to the Meiji and Taisho eras. Currently, the legacy of Echigo Toji (master brewers) is carried forward by the 7th-generation owner and her family of three women, who bring a unique perspective to the craft. Its flagship brand, 'Echigo Sekkobai,' was named through a close friendship with the renowned composer Minoru Endo. From the time-honored classics to the modern 'Tabineko' series (featuring local illustrations), the brewery elegantly blends tradition with contemporary sensibility.
