Niigata Meijo was established in 1938 (Showa 13) by volunteers in Ojiya City, Niigata, as a way to integrate and inherit traditional regional breweries. It continues brewing by utilizing the rich water source where the Shinano River and Uono River meet, along with Ojiya's blessed environment blanketed in deep snow during winter.
Its major feature is the pursuit of harmony between 'Tanrei Karakuchi' (light and dry), synonymous with Niigata sake, and 'Umaku' (richly flavored) which leaves a moderate sweetness from the rice. While protecting traditional 'Kanzukuri' techniques, the introduction of the latest brewing equipment ensures the constant provision of stable, high-quality sake to the market.
Developing brands that boast immense local popularity, such as 'Koshi no Kanchubai' and 'Chojasakari,' it is known as a trusted brewery deeply rooted in the lives of Niigata people, from regional banquets to daily dining tables.
