堀米地区の名井戸「堀米の井戸」に由来する蔵元の代表銘柄で、この井戸水を使用して醸される美味しい酒として親しまれてきました。自家栽培米を使用し、岩手の気候風土で育った米を岩手の気候風土で醸すという、terroir(テロワール)を大切にした酒造りが特徴です。
地域の水と米、そして南部杜氏の技術が融合した、紫波を代表する地酒です。
