Fukugaoshuzou

Fukugao Shuzo, founded in 1897, is the only remaining brewery in Sanjo City, Niigata Prefecture. Its name is derived from the warm wish that 'people who drink sake will be visited by good fortune and have a happy smiling face (Fukugao).' Inheriting the spirit of the manufacturing city Sanjo, it continues to brew sake without being bound by conventional concepts while protecting tradition.
It uses super soft water from the local Igarashi River for brewing water, realizing a soft mouthfeel and rounded taste. While sticking to traditional hand-crafted techniques, it also boldly challenges experimental attempts that are rare in the world, such as aging sake in whiskey and bourbon barrels. The quality of sake, where refined sweetness and soft acidity are exquisitely harmonized, richly complements daily meals and brings a sense of happiness just like a 'face that calls for good fortune.' It is a brewery that makes one feel the pride of Sanjo, where tradition and innovation coexist.
