Washinoo

Washinoo is a brewery located in Hachimantai City, and there are two theories about the origin of the brand name. One theory is that it was named as sake brewed with water from a mountain where a giant eagle once lived, using spring water from Mt. Iwate (Mt. Ganju). The other theory is that it is derived from the snow shape resembling an eagle spreading its wings that appears on Mt. Iwate in the early spring thaw.
Previously sold only within Hachimantai City, it is now available for purchase throughout Iwate Prefecture. Still, it is a true community-based brewery that is fast distributed outside the prefecture. By consuming most of the production volume locally, they practice sake brewing closely linked to the local food culture.
International reputation is also rising, such as winning the Platinum Award consecutively in the Junmai Daiginjo category at the French sake competition "Kura Master."
