Kenkonichi is the flagship brand of Onuma Shuzo Store, named by the first governor of Miyagi Prefecture, Masanao Matsudaira, in 1870 (Meiji 3).
"Kenkon" is a word referring to Yin and Yang, Heaven and Earth in divination, and it is filled with the wish that it would become "the best sake in the world."
It features the gentle spread of the umami of rice and a sharp mouthfeel, and uses Miyagi Prefecture's "Sasanishiki" as the main raw material. Sasanishiki is known as edible rice, but despite being more expensive and difficult to handle than sake brewing suitable rice, the brewery's individuality lies in daring to use this rice from the attitude of cherishing local ingredients.
As a representative brand of Onuma Shuzo Store with a tradition of over 300 years, it embodies sake brewing sticking to the climate and ingredients of Miyagi Prefecture.
