Oya Chukichi Honten, founded in 1879, is a historic brewery in Shirakawa City with beautiful plaster storehouses and a brick chimney facing the old Oshū Kaido road.
Using groundwater from the Nasu Mountains that wells up in their on-site well, they continue to brew "individualistic regional sake" utilizing Shirakawa's rice, water, and people. The third-generation Chuichiro Oya was a poet who studied under Sakutaro Hagiwara, giving the brewery a unique cultural sensitivity.
Currently led by the fifth generation, Hiroo Oya, the brewery balances tradition with modern excellence, earning praise domestically and abroad for their spirits that embody Shirakawa's culture and seasonal transitions.
