"Shusen Kurano" (formerly Chino Shuzojo) was founded in 1540 (Tenbun 9) and is known as the oldest brewery in Shinshu.
Currently, the 18th generation Toji, Ms. Mariko Chino (a female Toji), oversees the sake brewing, and with numerous awards including multiple Gold Prizes at the Annual Japan Sake Awards, she brews high-quality sake with outstanding skill and sensibility.
Located in Kawanakajima, they use subsoil water from the Sai River that springs from a well on the premises for brewing water.
The annual production volume is small, and all "Genbu" sake is carefully brewed in small 600K tanks.
