Founded in 1912 at the foot of Mt. Oyama, a sacred mountain and symbol of Isehara, Kanagawa, Kikkawa Jozo is the city's sole brewery. Its most remarkable feature is the use of groundwater from Afuriyama, the sacred body of the Oyama Afuri Shrine. This natural hard water, with a hardness of 150—rare in Japan—imparts a distinctive 'minerality' that has garnered international acclaim. Alongside the traditional 'Kikuyu,' the brewery launched 'Afuri,' a new brand deeply connected to the Oyama Afuri Shrine, which has swept top honors globally, including Platinum at France's 'Kura Master' and Gold at the UK's 'IWC.' Featuring calligraphy by the shrine's high priest, Kikkawa Jozo blends the sacred mountain's blessings with modern brewing excellence, establishing itself as a world-class local sake of Kanagawa.
