Takenami Shuzoten is the oldest brewery in Aomori Prefecture, with a history dating back to the early Edo period. It was established by a founder who relocated from Tsuruga, Fukui Prefecture, to Itayanagi, Aomori.
After a brief closure, the brewery was revived under new ownership and resumed production at its current location in Inagaki-machi, Tsugaru City (on the former site of Osanai Shuzoten). Today, the 17th-generation head serves as the Toji (master brewer), preserving traditional techniques.
Their primary brands are "Iwaki Masamune" and "Shichirobei." "Iwaki Masamune" is a traditional label named after Mt. Iwaki and the Iwaki River, the symbols of Tsugaru, while "Shichirobei" is named after a hereditary title held from the 3rd to the 12th generation of the family.
While honoring its legacy as Aomori’s oldest brewery, Takenami Shuzoten continues to evolve for the modern era.
