Kitaya is a long-established brewery boasting over 200 years of history, founded in Yame City, Fukuoka Prefecture in the 3rd year of Bunsei (1820). The trade name "Kitaya" is derived from the founder's aspiration to "convey joy to many people through sake."
Adhering to the family motto "The master himself should brew sake," the president himself is passionately involved in sake brewing together with the Toji and brewers. They have received high acclaim worldwide, including winning the Champion Sake at IWC 2013.
Note: "Kitaya" means "Shop of Much Joy".
Using the underground water of the Yabe River for brewing water, they insist on locally produced sake brewing rice, including the Fukuoka Prefecture original sake rice "Gin no Sato." Fusing tradition and innovation, they continue sake brewing that expresses the climate of Yame.
