Hakuro Shuzo is a historic brewery in Nagaoka, Niigata, founded about 250 years ago during the Horeki era by the Yamazaki family under the house name 'Etchuya.' It holds the prestigious history of being the official brewery for the Makino family, the former lords of the Nagaoka Domain. Crucially, it is the only brewery permitted to use the Makino family's crest, 'Mitsu-kashiwa' (three oak leaves), a legacy it proudly carries today. Utilizing Nagaoka's pure water and carefully selected rice, the brewery pursues the traditional Niigata 'tanrei karakuchi' (light and dry) style. While preserving its dignified historical presence, Hakuro Shuzo continues to craft sake with a sharp finish and refined flavor, condensing 250 years of Nagaoka's brewing heritage into every drop.
