Miyaizumi Meijo, founded in 1955, is a brewery that branched off from the prestigious Aizu brewery Hanaharu Shuzo. Located right next to Tsurugajo Castle in the historic castle town of Aizu-Wakamatsu, they practice brewing that merges 300 years of inherited traditional techniques with modern brewing science.
The brewery's name, "Miyaizumi," derives from the fact that the well water on their premises was of superb quality, matching the famous "Miyamizu" of Nada, which is considered ideal for sake brewing. Since 2009, they have revitalized the "Sharaku" brand (inherited from the closed Higashiyama Shuzo) with their own technology. Its brilliant fruit-like aroma and fresh taste, where rice umami sparks in the mouth, quickly gained a reputation, making it nationally popular to the point of being difficult to obtain.
By carefully brewing rice like "Yume no Kaori" and "Gohyakumangoku" through contract farming with local farmers, they have established a new standard for Junmai-style sake. With the traditional "Aizu Miyaizumi" and the globally enchanting "Sharaku" as its two wings, they are vividly carving out the future of Aizu sake.
