Hirano Jozo is a brewery founded in 1873. It practices brewing strictly adhering to traditional techniques using sake rice including rice from neighboring Fukui and Gifu prefectures and Gujo City, and using "water from the village of Kokin Denju" for all brewing water, rice washing, and tool cleaning. The flagship brand "Bojo" was named by the second generation in memory of Ju, the wife of founder Kichibee Hirano. Ju was known as a person who devoted herself to others and society, and the brewery aims to make sake that heals drinkers and makes them smile unintentionally. Although it produced a brand called "Kanro" at the time of its founding, it now develops brands related to the history and culture of Gujo, such as "Kazutoyo no Tsuma," "Gujo Ikki," and "Gujo Odori," centering on "Bojo."
