Tenzan Shuzo was founded when the couple Tsuki and Riso Shichida, who were running a milling and noodle manufacturing business, took over the sake brewing business from a neighboring brewery that was closing down. It uses clear subsoil water gushing from the middle of Mt. Tenzan in Ogi City. This water is iron-free, medium-hard water rich in minerals such as calcium and magnesium, making it ideal famous water for sake brewing. The "Kiyomizu Waterfall" of the Gion River flowing in front of the brewery has been selected as one of the "Top 100 Waters" as a home for Genji fireflies. Valuing the spirit of "Fueki Ryuko" (fluidity and immutability) most, it strives for quality-first sake brewing that maximizes the blessings of local Ogi's nature, which it has cherished since its founding. Its representative brands include "Tenzan", "Shichida", "Ichijitsu Senshu", and "Hotaruyoi".
