Musashino Shuzo is a brewery in Joetsu, Niigata, with a history dating back to the Taisho era. This region is renowned as the 'birthplace of skiing in Japan,' where Major Lerch of the Austro-Hungarian Army first introduced skiing techniques in 1911. Honoring this heritage, the brewery uniquely renamed its flagship brand from 'Etsuzan Masamune' to 'Ski Masamune.' During World War II, when foreign loanwords were prohibited, the name was changed to 'Sukimasa Masamune' (using lucky kanji), which lives on today as their premium line. The brewery is also deeply committed to conserving the terraced rice fields (tanada) surrounded by beech forests, practicing brewing in harmony with the local environment. While preserving tradition, their playful spirit and profound love for the region continue to make them a beloved pillar of the community.
