Gancho, located in Kishiwada City, Osaka, is a historic company founded in 1810 (Bunka 7) as "Terada Shuzo." Taking pride in being Kishiwada's oldest sake brewery, it has supported the sake culture of the castle town for over 200 years.
The brewery began brewing its "Gancho" brand in 1912 (Taisho 1), and its history, which has walked alongside Kishiwada's festivals, is deeply familiar to the local people. While it has now shifted from direct in-house brewing to contract brewing by trusted partners, it continues to firmly maintain its role as the "Haragura" (original brewery/owner) for traditional brands such as "Gancho" and "Takamura."
Furthermore, as a liquor retailer, it is very active, handling its own brands as well as about 70 types of sake and shochu carefully selected from all over Japan, serving as a hub for disseminating sake culture. It also actively delivers the traditional taste of Kishiwada to fans nationwide through online sales.
In changing times, it is a rare historical entity that keeps the flame of Kishiwada's oldest sake alive while evolving, continuing to connect tradition with the present day.
