Nihonbare Shuzo (formerly Arano Honten) was a historic brewery in Takaoka City, founded during the Kaei era at the end of the Edo period.
It shared a deep connection with local history, having acquired the brewing rights and equipment of the Tsuda family—the ancestral home of Sachiko, mother of the world-renowned scientist Dr. Jokichi Takamine (discoverer of Taka-Diastase and Adrenaline).
Despite efforts to preserve local brewing traditions, the brewery ceased production in 2010 due to lack of a successor and transitioned to retail. Its flagship brand, 'Nihonbare,' remains a respected name in Toyama's brewing history, symbolizing the pride of Takaoka's sake heritage.
