Ida Shuzo, located in Tamamura Town, Gunma Prefecture, is the second oldest brewery in the prefecture, with history dating back to the mid-Edo period.
Miraculously surviving the great fire of 1868 that destroyed most of the town, its brewing buildings are now designated as Registered Tangible Cultural Properties of Japan.
With over 300 years of history, the brewery is currently led by the 15th generation president, Izumi Ida.
While valuing the techniques and traditions cultivated over centuries, they continue to brew sake using pure underground spring water from Mount Akagi.
