Otokoyama Honten is a sake brewery founded in Kesennuma in 1912 (Taisho 1), and has walked alongside the rich seafood of Kesennuma, a large fishing port town in Miyagi Prefecture.
In the Great East Japan Earthquake of 2011 (Heisei 23), the 100-year-old brewery located on a hill escaped the tsunami and protected the light of sake brewing in Kesennuma.
The main brand "Sotenden," announced in 2002 (Heisei 14), is a brand that expresses "a refreshing and clear taste like the blue sky of Kesennuma." It features a delicate taste that snuggles up to fresh seafood landed throughout the four seasons in Kesennuma, and a refreshing aftertaste while having depth.
Sotenden has a lineup of six products: Junmai Daiginjo, Daiginjo, Junmai Ginjo, Tokubetsu Junmai, Junmai, and Tokubetsu Honjozo, and boasts numerous awards at the National New Sake Appraisal.
In addition, they brew brands such as "Rikuzen Otokoyama," "Fushimi Otokoyama," "Kashin," and "Ogon Kaido," and continue sake brewing rooted in the region as local sake supporting Kesennuma's food culture.
