Hamachi Shuzo is a brewery with over 150 years of history, founded in the 3rd year of Meiji. It is known by the trade name "Suginoya."
Located in Motooka, Nishi Ward, Fukuoka City, it is about a 15-minute walk from Kyushu University. The name "Suginoya" originates from the fact that the first owner loved Noh theater and built a Noh stage using cedar (Sugi) wood.
Using clear underground water from the Sefuri mountain range as brewing water, they have been brewing sake with high-quality rice from Fukuoka Prefecture and abundant water for over 150 years. Cooperating with local farmers to cultivate the sake rice "Yumeikkon" in fields near the brewery, they practice local production for local consumption using the harvested rice.
They acquired a beer brewing license in the earliest period in northern Kyushu and also produce highly acclaimed craft beer. Free tasting and brewery tours are available, and the adjacent bakery and restaurant offer products utilizing brewer's yeast and sake lees.
