Founded in 1829 by Omi merchants who settled in Tochigi, Tonoike Shogoro Shoten is a venerable brewery with a history spanning nearly 200 years.
Maintaining their Omi merchant roots, they have reflected the merchant's integrity, commitment to quality, and the unique "Sampo Yoshi" spirit (good for the seller, good for the buyer, and good for society) in their sake brewing. Located in Ishii-machi, Utsunomiya City, they practice careful sake making utilizing local water and rice.
The main brands are "Tenkin" and "Azuma Nishiki," both characterized by a light flavor and refreshing aroma. "Tenkin" aims for a sake quality beautifully harmonized like the sound of a heavenly koto (Japanese harp), while "Azuma Nishiki" carries the meaning of a beautiful and valuable sake like the brocade (Nishiki) of the Eastern land (Kanto).
While not flashy, the elegant quality that stays close to meals possesses versatility, enjoyable from daily dining tables to special occasions. Though separate from the Tonoike Shuzo Ten in Mashiko (which brews "Bo" and "Sanran"), they are considered to have historical ties through the Omi merchant network, sharing the same Tonoike name.
