Hamamatsu Shuzo was founded in 1871 by the Nakamura family. Located in Hamamatsu City, the brewery is deeply rooted in the history of the region.
Their flagship brand, 'Shussejo' (Success Castle), is named after Hamamatsu Castle, where Tokugawa Ieyasu and subsequent lords rose to prominent positions in the Tokugawa Shogunate. The name symbolizes success and good fortune.
The brewing water is 'super soft water' (hardness ±0) drawn from 100 meters underground, originating from the subterranean flow of the Tenryu River. This unique water gives the sake a gentle, subtle sweetness in the aftertaste, even in very dry varieties.
Inheriting the traditions of the Nanbu Toji, they use traditional tools and Shizuoka ingredients to craft sake that embodies the local history and culture of Hamamatsu.
