Sekinoi Shuzo, located in Mutsu City, Aomori Prefecture, is the only brewery on the Shimokita Peninsula and the northernmost on Japan's main island, Honshu.
Founded as Seki Yuzo Shoten, it was merged into the Nihoku Shuzo Tanabu Plant during World War II before its brewing department once again became independent as "Sekinoi Shuzo."
Its primary brands are "Sekinoi" and "Kitaisami." Notably, the Daiginjo "Kitaisami" is a rare brand limited to 800 bottles annually, packaged in Aomori Hiba (cypress) boxes. They also produce Junmai Ginjo sakes like "Kandachime."
They continue to brew sake by embracing their unique position as the northernmost brewery on Honshu.
