Honke Matsuura Shuzojo Co., Ltd. is the brewery with the oldest history in Tokushima Prefecture, founded in 1804 (Bunka 1), located at Ikenotani, Oasa-cho, Naruto City.
Located along the Muya Kaido road, it once functioned as a reception place for pilgrims of the Shikoku 88 Temple Pilgrimage. The mansion, nagayamon (gate in a row house), and store that retain the atmosphere of that time are designated as Registered Tangible Cultural Properties of Japan.
The representative brand 'Narutotai' was named in 1886 (Meiji 19) by the then head Kuhei Matsuura, with the desire to make sake as lively as the sea bream tossed about in the torrents of the Naruto Strait.
It practices sake brewing fusing tradition and innovation, such as traditional Yamahai brewing and new sake brewing using LED Dream Yeast. It has a track record of winning awards in the United States and France, and is highly evaluated overseas.
