Horetsu Shuzo is a brewery founded in 1918 in Ukan-cho, Takahashi City, producing 'O Horetsu' named by combining the auspicious character 'Sakura' (cherry blossom) with 'Horetsu-ko,' the posthumous name of Mitsumasa Ikeda, the third lord of the Okayama domain.
Located in the rich natural environment upstream of the Ukan River, a tributary of the Takahashi River, they brew using mineral-rich underground water from the Ukan River.
With a wide lineup including Daiginjo, Junmai Ginjo, Ginjo, and Honjozo, they have won multiple Gold Awards at the National New Sake Competition.
Their historic brewery built in 1882 hosts an annual 'JAZZ IN UKAN' concert in late April, creating a unique atmosphere where culture and brewing converge.
The brewery is treasured locally as a rare, regionally distributed sake.
